What are The Rings Inbetween?

The Rings Inbetween is the space between planes, tied to many outer world realms, like the Astral Planes, with small chain connections between other settings and realms across the universe. Presided over by a mysterious authority that only calls themselves the Witnesses of Lore. This is a realm that has been named Arrna by the Witnesses of Lore. The rings are the many floating arenas spinning around the tower in the realm’s center, as if they are planets orbiting the sun. The rings contain arenas of every variation, and you never know which arena you might end up in when you sign up for a fight.

Serving as a resting spot for those deities and creatures that wander the planes, this location has garnered great amounts of attention from deities of the realms, and its rulers are considered to be divine agents in some capacity, though the pantheon or deity they used to serve is unknown. The Witnesses seem to have more gold than they could ever use, and are greatly entertained by glorious shows of strength and power, and might just pluck you from your realm to show your skill and talent.

The rings themselves, these great bands of gold and silver, are full of shifting biomes, changing from desert to tundra in seconds, the living arena’s presenting unique challenges and threats to those who compete inside them. You might find a monster you have never seen before one day, and a demon the next. You are rewarded well for fighting, and death itself is truly impossible inside the region inside and around the arenas and the central tower.

The colossal tower that stands near the arenas is known as The Anran House, and inside is where all contestants will find themselves time to prepare for fights.

Setting the Scene

You are adventurer’s, heroes, villains, or lost travelers who have appeared in a realm you are not familiar with. You know you may return home whenever you so wish, but when you arrive, you see a door to a dorm with your name on it, a pamphlet on the door written in cursive writing and bold black ink, advertising the fame and glory you might gain. Your god may have pulled you to this realm, perhaps you are chosen by some other entity unknown to you, or you may have received a direct invitation from a tall, lanky figure on your latest adventure, the creature appearing before you and placing your scroll

Your magic items and gear remain the same, but seem to have taken standard form, its additional or unusual item features inactive while in this strange space. When you look out the windows, you see swaths of darkness dispersed by strange spheres of grassland and forests, as if you were looking upon small planets. When you look down from the window, you see the decorated sides of a colossal tower, its bottom disappearing into the darkness below. If you look up, you see the tower also disappears into the sky above, appearing to be endless.

The door with your name and information upon it opens when you approach, revealing a comfortable small dorm suite, with a couch, table, desk, and large bed with red sheets and thick fur blankets and a canopy above it. In the corner of the room is a tall iron door that stands out from the decor around it. The door also lists your name, and magical illusions flow across its surface, depicting your adventures in other realms, then flashing with the words, “Armory.” Next to the door is an armoire with the doors open, and a large bag of coins sitting inside of it on the top shelf, two larger chests on the bottom shelf.

This bag of coins holds 1,000gp and 500sp inside of it. Tied to the bag is a small scroll in an ornate bronze scroll case, the case depicting your victories just as the armory door does. The scroll informs you that your gold and winnings will be stored inside the armoire’s larger space, but this bag of holding will contain your regular payouts and your starting gold.

At the bottom of the scroll is the title, The Maestro of Victory from The Orders of Arnna.
