The Mithiian Empire
Under the shadow of the Ire, half-life and the void rule eternal, where the great bodies of slumbering gods and colossal creatures of the deep hold dominion. The people of Mithiias search for the great goddess Minthiia and traverse dead worlds in search of her. Here, in Mithiias, you are lesser if not undead, marked by the gruesome maggots, or unchosen by the void.
What is Mithiias?
The empire of mithiias is an empire made out of islands and country sized gods that hold great megacities populated by the Mithiian people. The people of Mithiias have travelled across the planes on multiple occasions, to avoid cataclysms, to avoid extinction, to avoid godly wars, and to find their lost supreme goddess Minthiia, the namesake of the empire.
The people of Mithiias are worshippers of undeath, and only have four remaining deities after a near extinction event involving the death of their home plane in a godly war, followed by the splitting of the empires people, some hoping to find a new home, and some desiring to conquer. The conqueror’s found another plane, revitalized it and took it from the previous residents, and the rest left to explore the planes, finding their way to their new home plane, Abraeas’Dor in the later years of their second home. Ultimately, the second plane they made their home also fell to another godly war, and the goal of spreading across the planes became a goal out of desperation and survival rather than conquering.
The Mithiians find great pleasure in war, raiding, and pirating, and find peace in the assuredness of their strength, leaving behind wreckages of ships and empty cargo ships, the Mithiians leaving behind a calling card of a branded black set of wings burned into the decks of the ships they conquer and sink. The gods of the Mithiian empire are so colossal, that they are the size of small countries, and the bulk of the Abraean Mithiians live on their backs in giant megacities, even grow crops and food. Their societies are mobile, and the lands their gods destroy are turned into great magical machines that transport millions of Mithiian citizens and soldiers.
The islands floating across the Mithiian empire’s territory were once whole islands, maybe even larger landmasses, but the Mithiians arrival on Abraeas’Dor destroyed the lands that were connected to the bottom of the sea, leaving fractured islands, kept afloat by the magic of the gods themselves. The Mithiians built upon these floating lands, replaced their parts with great machines from their home world, and made them into floating colonies.
A place of decently high tech and even more strange magicks, fueled by the energy of the dead gods of their original plane, frost magic and necrotic magicks have made the greatest impact upon the Mithiians. The Mithiians have taken to worshipping undeath, even afflicting their own greatest warriors with partial undeath, the gods they live on still tainted by the sheer volume of death energy left over from the godly war.
Sea Monster are their friends; Krakens, Squids, Sea Serpents, Sea Wurms, Sea Dragons, Octopi, Sharks, and Eels roam freely in their realm, each of the animals being taken as spiritual signs from the gods, some even becoming deified do to pure worship and a prayer answered by their primary deities.
The cold is their ally, their greatest strength, and their greatest asset. No one dares attack the Mithiians in their home territories due to the rigid, subzero temperatures and the Mithiians propensity for brutal violence. The citizens of Mithiias are regarded as some of the most hardy folk in the world, at least on the surface, for surviving such devastating, bitingly cold winters and horrific blizzards.
The Mithiians are a deeply religious folk, who view divinity as a terrifying thing, a blessing from forces far removed from the world. Divinity is horror, immortality is burden, but they like to carry their burdens as long as they have items and treasure to gain, an empire to serve, and a people to protect. The Mithiians view burdens as a concept in a different light than most, believing them to be signs of goodness and courage rather than an inconvenience.
The Mithiians are a powerful, bold, savage, violent, and dangerous people, feared across the surface world of Abraeas’Dor. Their great cities, built into the sides of floating landmasses and on the backs of their gods, are beacons of technology and magic, a sign of the future to those empires that have little to no access to technology, and their religious fervor frightens those of little faith. The Mithiian Empire is in a period of technological growth, no longer using their found and created tech for warfare only, instead using their tech for quality of life improvements. The empire is in the 1910’s and 1920’s level of technology at the present time, with typewriters, printing presses, and rudimentary cars and smaller technologically advanced ships, which are the Mithiians current greatest technological investments.
The Government of Mithiias
-
The greatest lich’s and warriors of the realm, chosen for their faith as well as their combat and sailing abilities. To become the emperor or empress, you must prove worth through political campaigning, years of public service, a history of grit and resilience in searches for Minthiia, and have a proven record of military might and strategic cunning.
They are the ultimate authority, with only one check for their power in place, the Grand Ire, who serves underneath them but can veto decisions.
-
This individual us the speaker of the Ire, the layer of cursed storms and divine fury that blankets the realms of Mithiias, above the water and under it.
This individual is chosen through faith based challenges and many tests of understanding the void, understanding the tools that Mithiias uses that are often far beyond the understanding of even seasoned mages and soldiers. To become the Grand Ire, you must be beyond exceptional, and must prove your worth without faltering.
The Grand Ire is the check for the possibility of a maddened emperor, empress, or both. They can veto decisions made by the emperor or empress at any time, and does not live among the highest echelons of society, instead living among the people in slums and traveling across the realm as the highest shaman of the land, treated as a minor deity.
-
Two notoriously powerful cults, one of Minthiia and the other in cultish fascination with the old homeworlds and the maggots grown from the bodies of their dead gods, the Krosis Strains. These two religious cults have millions and millions of members, and hold great political power among the numerous department of the government. While they do not have direct rule, their influence is great enough to sway public opinion of even the most beloved emperor and empress.
-
The minor governments who choose their own representative for their landmasses and divecities, the strange mobile landmasses turned into giant ships built around the destroyed landmasses from Mithiias’s arrival on the plane.
These representatives form a court of leaderships in each nation, the nations being the names of the gods.
This wing of the government funds and rules the citizenry in a more personal way, ruling on civil matters and trade.
Contenders for Emperor and/or Empress are often chosen from this group of leaders, and many of these officials are members of the cults of Mother’s Ire or the Krossan Order.
The Ire
The Ire and anger of Minthiia. The great goddess minthiia, the mithiians supreme goddess, disappeared at the end the mithiians first world after a brutal war amongst the gods, leading to the death of the plane. Minthiia disappeared as her people travelled to a new world across the planes of existence. She issued a challenge to the Mithiians to find her once more before they would be worthy of the paradise they once had.
The Ire is the shadow of her anger as her people have still not found her, the weather, the lifespans, and the suffering of her people a reminder to never stop searching, else they find themselves abandoned for good.
